WELTERWEIGHT Kian “The Technician” Thomas said he proved that he has all the “grit and determination” that he needs after making it six straight wins in the paid ranks.

The undefeated Kentish Town fighter, who turned 25 this week, explained how he had to find a new way to win when he gained a unanimous victory over Russia’s Alisher Ashurov after six tough rounds at the Seinäjoki Areena in Finland on September 17.

“In the fourth round, he hit me with a punch, and his thumb caught me in the eye, so I couldn’t see properly for the rest of the fight,” revealed Kian. “It meant I had to switch styles, so instead of picking him off with my speed, I had to smother him and stay close.

“I proved that whatever happens in the ring I have the grit and determination needed to get the win. Ashurov wasn’t the strongest or the quickest fighter I’ve ever faced, but he was certainly the toughest.

“I caught him with some lovely shots but he was very durable and didn’t drop. I’m pleased with what was a convincing victory.”

Kian added that he expects to have two more fights before the year is out and that he is already planning a return to the ring in Finland and to also fight in France.
