MEMBERS of the Veras Karate Academy were fighting it out in France on Saturday after being invited to take part in the Adidas Open in Paris.

Sensei Raphael Veras and four of his young charges teamed-up with French club Team USF Karate to compete in the prestigious tournament, one of two pre-selection competitions for the Youth European Championships, which are due to be held next summer.

More than 1,500 competitors took part in the event, including Luan Veras who battled his way to the top of the winners podium to strike gold in the minus 45kg category.

Team-mates Tayla O’Brien and Demie Holland also both put in tremendous performances to bag bronze medals in their respective minus 40kg and plus 55kg categories.

Despite missing out on a medal, Chloe Casimir also put in a solid display to finish fifth in the plus 54kg category.
