There is no need to mess with the Swiss Cottage gyratory system

    Published: 5 January, 2017

    • HAVING lived in the Swiss Cottage area for more than 50 years I remember when the streets were two-way and why it was necessary to improve the lay-out.

Surprisingly the gyratory system works extremely well. What is required to improve safety for cyclists is a recalibration of the traffic lights to give them a head-start. The underlying problem is the proliferation of cars not bicycles.

That is what the council should be addressing, not spending umpteen thousands of pounds on a totally unnecessary rejig of a highly efficient system.

I gave up a car over 25 years ago and have travelled around happily by public transport ever since.
