The next few days are MASSIVE – there’s so much live music around I could fill a whole newspaper with listings.

In the absence of such luxury, here’s a brief clue...

HMV Next Big Thing starts tonight (Thurs) until Feb 12, featuring 200 artists playing The Borderline, Barfly, Heaven, the Jazz Cafe, the Garage and Upstairs at the Garage, as well as outside London.

Look out for Yasmin and Sway at Borderline (Feb 5), Dog is Dead at the Garage (Feb 7), Modestep, Phear Phace and Break The Noize at Heaven (Feb 7), and Labrinth, Stooshe and Tanya Lacey at Jazz Cafe (Feb 11).

If you have to pick only one, go see the incredible Hanni El Khatib, who plays alongside The Heavy and Crybaby at Borderline (Feb 4).

    All tickets £10. Details

The Tricks play at the Old Queen’s Head tonight (Thurs).

Last time they played in Camden, Johnny Depp dropped by.

Ever wondered what Barfly’s Mystery DJ is all about?

Turns out he’s a big-name club DJ who lets off steam with cheesy Barfly sets, hence the anonymity. See him, XfM DJ Steve Harris and Moonjets playing live at the club’s Smoke & Mirrors night (Feb 11).

Rams’ Pocket Radio has been catching the ears of the right people, securing a Radio 1 playlist slot and described by the Sunday Times as “sensational”. See him at The Enterprise (Feb  8) before he plays 02 Arena supporting Snow Patrol (Feb 12).

Ex-Royal Marine Jay Coen and band Johnny Wore Black launch debut single All the Rage at the Bull & Gate (Feb 6) raising funds for Dare to Live, Combat Stress and Help for Heroes.

Strangest Press release of the week?

One from Leeds Met Uni offering an interview with Cultural Studies lecturer Dr James McGrath offering insights into the Happy Mondays reunion...
