GROOVES: Coming up...

LAST year, just before Halloween, I found myself part of the strangest spooky sandwich imaginable – a zombie, Bez (the real one from the Happy Mondays) and me, dressed as a witch, all in a queue at a motorway service station.

That must have been a strange shift for the shop assistant.

This is nothing more than a long-winded way of introducing the exciting news that the Mondays are bringing a sense of balance to 2012 by bookending this year’s 1990s revival theme with a special appearance at Camden Roundhouse in December.

For two nights only the Roundhouse will relive the heady days of the Hacienda when the Mondays come to town with 808 State Soundsystem in tow.

And with promises of more special guests, who knows what other characters from the Madchester heyday are likely to turn up?

In the week leading up to Christmas, (December 19 and 20) – present ideas anyone? – Shaun Ryder and his happy band of Mondays will be performing tracks from their back catalogue.

The band have gathered together the full original line-up for the first time in 19 years and are reportedly working on a new album.
