Key stage: big names set for Proud benefit show

Rapper Lowkey - set to appear at Love Music Hate Racism Christmas party

We all know by now that when there’s a Love Music Hate Racism event on the cards, you never know just who’s going to turn up.
Which means that as well as the promised acts there’s usually some pretty spectacular surprises.
So bear this in mind next week, as you’re wondering whether to stay lounging on the sofa by the fire, or brave the sub-zero climes and head out to Proud Camden on Tuesday (December 15) for the Love Music Hate Racism Massive Christmas Party featuring the LMHR Allstars.
The night is curated by Sam Duckworth, aka Get Cape, Wear Cape Fly, who seems to be everywhere these days, enlisting the talents of his instrument-wielding mates for all sorts of sonic trickery.
Already confirmed for next week’s event are rapper extraordinaire Lowkey (pictured), Camden’s own Mpho (former Record of the Week), Sham 69’s Jimmy Pursey and some very special guests including The Specials founder member Jerry Dammers, with Man Like Me on the decks.
Expect some irresistible dance beats and some seriously good music.
    And don’t forget – it’s for a good cause.
LMHR was set up in 2002 in response to rising levels of racism and electoral successes for the BNP.
As their spokesman said: “Our music is living testimony to the fact that cultures can and do mix.
“It unites us and gives us strength, and offers a vibrant celebration of our multicultural and multiracial society. Racism seeks only to divide and weaken us.”
Up to now there have been more than 600 LMHR events, from large outdoor festivals to local gigs and club nights.
Artists who have performed at previous events include Ms Dynamite, Hard-Fi, Babyshambles, Akala, Get Cape, Wear Cape Fly, Estelle, The View, Lethal Bizzle, Roll Deep and Basement Jaxx as well as a whole host of up-and-coming bands, DJs, MCs and fans who have performed at or organised their own local LMHR nights.
    • Love Music Hate Racism Christmas Party runs from 7.30pm-1.30am, Tuesday, December 15, at Proud Camden, Stables Market. Advance tickets: £10 with all profits going to LMHR (£12 on door).
