IN THE GROVE: Jay-Jay’s spirit the spur

    Published: 14 October, 2016

THERE might be something a little unfamiliar about the build up to any goals Arsenal score against Swansea this Saturday at the Emirates Stadium.

Watch out as Laurent Koscielny plays the ball out from the back, and finds Mesut Ozil in midfield, who carries the ball up the pitch.

With a quick glimpse, the talented Germany international finds Jay-Jay Okocha. Or wait, was that Edgar Davids who was bursting into the box?

That’s how Ozil will see the action unfold, at least, as the midfielder, who turns 28 on Saturday, has revealed that whenever he plays alongside team-mate Alex Iwobi he sees similarities between the Nigerian striker and the two former greats of the game.

“He reminds me so much of his uncle, Jay-Jay Okocha,” Ozil told Arsenal Player

“He was a player I loved watching. Alex reminds me of a mixture of him and Edgar Davids. He’s really strong on the ball, also defensively, and he’s good in front of goal too.

“He knows exactly what he can do. He isn’t scared and doesn’t hide on the pitch.

“He wants to have fun playing football and that really shows on the pitch, and in training.

“He’s developing really well and if he continues the way he’s been playing this season, he will really enhance his game.

“The manager knows exactly how good he is. He is a really talented young player and is on a really good path.”
