Feature: A little known Beaton

    Published: 6 September, 2012

Cecil Beaton: Theatre of War, a major new exhibition exploring the impact of the Second World War on the life and work of the fashion and portrait photographer opened this week. Beaton (1904-1980) took 7,000 photographs during the war and was commissioned by the Ministry of Information. The Imperial War Museum has put 350 of these on display. “These little known images show Beaton adopting new methods to create a body of work that he later considered to be his most important”, they say. Related documents and artefacts here include Beaton’s original wartime diaries on public display for the first time.
