    Published: 16 November, 2012

Cocktails have been popular in England since the 1930s. They were previously associated with high-end classy bars and restaurants in London and there was a distinct element of sophistication associated with the drinks. This style was epitomised by characters such as James Bond, helping to make cocktails a popular favourite with a variety of punters.

Camden has a distinct vibe and an array of bars and pubs to suit any mood or occasion. More and more pubs advertise cocktail deals to try and entice customers – but just where are the most popular bars and what makes them so great?

    Spiritual Caipirinha Bar

Anyone walking past Spiritual Caipirinha Bar wouldn’t miss it easily. Located between Primrose hill, Camden and Kentish Town, the bar offers colourful and vibrant décor.

Many describe the bar as kooky but welcoming, combining amazing cocktails with traditional Brazilian food for a unique experience. It is a great place to chill out of an evening and you can dance, eat or just sit and watch major sporting games in comfort.

    The Grand Union

The Grand Union offers an entirely different drinking experience and is part of a chain of many other bars that are spread across London. There is a distinct oriental feel to the bar and it features an array of knick knacks including Japanese fan umbrellas, Chinese lanterns and an electric organ.

As well as a fantastic cocktail selection, The Grand Union has recently become famous for its burgers. It is easy to get to from via many transport links so there is no excuse not to visit.

Fifty five Bar and Lounge is probably one of Camden’s largest and most well known cocktail bars. The bars are spread across two floors and punters can choose from a list of over 200 cocktails. This modern bar is located on Jamestown Road and offers a variety of happy hour offers.

Sunday Sessions promise two-for-one cocktails all night from 6pm. Moving to Monday, and Mojito Madness is in the air with the two-for-one offer being dedicated to the bars 12 varieties of Mojito. The general happy hour runs from Mon-Fri and provides customers with the same deal on cocktails from 5-8pm.

    Lockside Lounge

Located on the Upper Walkway near West Yard, this is a fairly new addition to the Camden cocktail bar selection. The bar has spent time refining its drinks menu, offering a variety of cocktails, international beers and wines.

The Lockside Lounge also hosts a variety of weekly events. Some areas of the lounge can be hired out for private events as well.

The food at the Lockside Lounge is unique, providing traditional English cuisine with an American twist. Everything that is cooked has been sourced locally too – so you are guaranteed a fresh meal.
